A Warm, Funny, Heartfelt Night at the Theatre

Step into Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, 1937.

The Guild Theatre proudly presents Brighton Beach Memoirs, inviting you to follow teenager Eugene Jerome as he navigates adolescence, first crushes, family tensions and big dreams in the middle of the Great Depression. Brighton Beach Memoirs is a semi-autobiographical, coming-of-age comedy from master playwright Neil Simon - full of laughter, tears and love.

This bittersweet memoir captures the struggles and hopes of two immigrant families sharing one crowded home on the eve of World War II. It's honest, funny, moving and deeply relatable.

Set in Brighton Beach in 1937, the play follows Eugene, a teenager who dreams of playing baseball and becoming a writer. At the same time, he must navigate a noisy, loving household and the constant money worries of the Great Depression. His life becomes even more crowded and complicated with the arrival of his widowed aunt and cousins, and he begins to experience the first stirrings of romance and independence.

Through Eugene's witty, honest narration, we glimpse both the challenges and the small joys of an immigrant family doing their best to get by. The result is a funny, touching and deeply human portrait of family life.
